The Weichow Incident

The Weichow Incident

During November 1938 a serious but little-known incident occurred over the Gulf of Tongking. An Imperial Airways DH86B Express, Dardanus G-ADUE , flying from Hong Kong to Bangkok, was attacked by Japanese Navy Type 96 "Claudes" and forced down on to Weichow Island. It subsequently appeared that the airliner had flown too close to the Japanese-held island, violating its security zone.
