Northolt's High Fliers

Specially modified Spitfire IXc's of the RAF's High Altitude Flight were designed to deal with Luftwaffe aircraft intruding at extreme altitudes. A Ju 86P was intercepted over Southampton at 43,500 ft, the highest recorded air combat of WW II.
